How to control diabetes naturally at home?

In this topic, we will discuss the list of foods that controls blood sugar levels. There are many foods easily available and we also use them in day to day life which is helpful to people with diabetes and the list is here.

 (1) String beans: 

Tea prepared from string Bean pods is a good natural substitute for insulin and highly beneficial for a person with diabetes. The skin of the pods of green beans are extremely rich in silica and also contains hormonal substances that closely related to insulin.

String beans are low in glycemic index and have a high amount of Vitamin C, vitamin A, folate and Vitamin K. Among these Vitamin A is very helpful for the maintenance of function of pancreatic cells which produces insulin. Pods of string mean also contain a high amount of fibre which again helpful for the diabetic person.

How to use string beans for diabetes?

The string can be taken in the form of tea. Tea should be prepared from the whole string bean that is along with its pods. One cup of green tea is almost equal to one unit of insulin.

You can also prepare a string beans juice as well as other green bean juice.

String beans can also be taken as or with salad.

Precautions:

String beans or green beans are high in fibre content. So if the person is not taking fibre diet regularly and suddenly starts such a high fibre diet, they may face digestive problem like bloating and gas. Because our digestive system does not easily digest fibres and starch found in beans.

Our digestive system takes time to be habitual with such a high fibre diet. So such person should start with limited quantity until they are habitual with it.

 (2) Cucumber: 

15 is the glycemic index of cucumber and any food which have glycemic index less than 55 is considered low. Such foods are a good choice for a diabetic person.

Cucumber also contains a hormone needed by the cells of the pancreas for producing insulin along with low in calories and high in fibre content. Cucumber also provides vitamin B, Vitamin C, vitamin K, potassium, magnesium, biotin, phosphorus along with many phytonutrients like flavonoids, lignans, triterpenes which are helpful for our body.

How to add cucumber in the diet of a diabetic person?

As a salad: you can use cucumber as a salad along with peanut, tomatoes, broccoli, celery, etc.

Cucumber soup: You can prepare chilled cucumber soup with added yoghurt.

Raita: Indian are fond of raita. You can also use cucumber by making cucumber raita.

 (3) Onion and Garlic: 

Onion and garlic have proved beneficial effect in lowering blood sugar in diabetic person especially garlic is much helpful.

Garlic has many health benefits like best for cardiovascular health by reducing cholesterol and blood pressure. Also helpful in preventing cancer cell growth as it has an anti-tumour effect. Garlic has also antibacterial and antifungal effect.

How to add onion or garlic in our diet?

Using raw garlic directly is not palatable in the test. So you can add garlic in salads and vegetable recipes. You can also use green garlic plant.

You can also prepare garlic sauce or chutney with or without adding honey.

 (4) Bitter gourd or karela: 

Bitter gourd or Karela is highly beneficial for the patient of diabetes. Because it contains an insulin-like principle which is plant insulin also known as polypeptide-p, which has been found helpful in lowering the blood and urine sugar level. So Karela should be included in the diet of diabetes.

How to use bitter gourd for diabetes

You can use 3-4 Karela fruits by making juice of it and take it in the morning on an empty stomach.

Bitter gourd can be used in powder form by adding in food.

You can make a decoction by boiling pieces of bitter gourd in water.

Precaution:

Bitter gourd or Karela should not be used in excess quantity as it may cause abdominal pain or diarrhoea.

 (5) Jambul fruit: 

Jambul or Jamun fruit has many health benefits against heart disease, cancer and diabetes also. The seeds of Jamun fruit contains a glucoside known as jamboline which is helpful to control the pathological conversion of starch into sugar in cases of increased production of glucose. It also increases insulin sensitivity and activity thus controlling high blood sugar level.

How to use jambul fruit in the diet for diabetes?

The seeds of jambul fruit can be dried and powdered. This powder can be taken with milk, curd or water.

You can also prepare jambul juice or flavoured yogurt or milkshake of jambul fruit.

 (6) Manganese containing foods: 

One of the important nutrients in controlling blood glucose level is manganese which is vital in the production of natural insulin.

Manganese is found in citrus fruits, in the outer covering of nuts, grains and in the green leaves of edible plants.
